Miriam Cabello artist/Director of MLC Gallery & Design Studio; draws upon literary classics and biblical stories to explore poignant contemporary issues; transplanting modern day sports figures into age-old scenarios with complex themes. Each painting in the series is abounding with symbolism and rich allegory. Her depiction of Christ as a black boxer raises issues of human justice & racial inequalities in a modern visual translation of traditional iconography set against the ethereal quality of an abstract expressionist backdrop.
The series has received the prestigious international award: 2009 Faith & Form/IFRAA Design Award for "Stations of the Cross" • Winner Religious Art-Visual Arts and will be exhibited at the 2010 National Convention of the American Institute of Architects in Miami. Her winning entry will be published in the Winter 2009 AWARDS Issue of “Faith & Form” magazine.
MLC Gallery focuses on the integration of education into the gallery experience, whilst promoting emerging and mid-career artists.
