IFSS – where students learn to craft daring cinema
IFSS – the home of daring cinema
IFSS – transforming aspiring filmmakers into fearless cinematic artists
Run by experienced and passionate filmmakers – 17 full-time staff and local and international guest lecturers, technicians and artists – the 2 year Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media has been designed to transform students into fearless cinematic artists, with dynamic storytelling skills, technical excellence and a distinctive creative voice.
Since 2004, the International Film School (IFSS) in Sydney’s prestigious Eastern Suburbs has trained hundreds of directors, screenwriters, producers, editors and other film professionals.
Throughout the program there is a strong emphasis on career pathways, employability skills, industry knowledge, collaboration and professionalism.
Students learn a variety of skills including:
• Writing and editing production ready scripts
• Effectively negotiating with members of a creative team
• Working with performers to produce quality performances
• Generating a range of innovative concepts and ideas
• Demonstrating originality in the directing process
• Planning and coordinating all aspects of a production from pre-production to post-production
• Setting, monitoring and adjusting budgets and cost estimates
• Working under pressure to tight deadlines
• Directing a range of professional camera, lighting and sound operations in single-camera and multiple-camera environments
Why IFSS?
• Graduate with a show reel of eight films written and directed by you
• Learn your craft from passionate and talented filmmakers
• Fee deferment for Australian domestic students
• Small classes means plenty of one-on-one teacher consultations
• Immerse yourself in all three disciplines – directing, screenwriting and producing
• Showcase your best work in international and local festivals and screenings
• Gain access to cutting-edge facilities and technology
• Study alongside students from all around the world making valuable contacts
• All copyright to films you make at the school belongs to YOU.
• Budgets and production costs are fully funded by IFSS, and students control how their production budget is spent.
We believe that if students want to be a successful writer, director or producer, they must be trained in all three disciplines, so that they understand the implications of every action they take.
