John 9:25 “One thing I do know. I was blind but now I see!
Completing a degree in Visual arts at the turn of the millennium majoring in painting and performance, I played the festival circuit and exhibited in Sydney pretty extensively.
I made my creative home at TAP gallery in Darlinghurst (TAP is awesome), have curated successful Sydney group art exhibitions, run some festivals, some performance events, toured and made art around Australia and online.
A reformed abstract painter and cerebral performer, over the years, Ive enjoyed smashing amplified pianos, TV’s and technology, worked in oddball collage painting with underwear, cheese, tomatoes, huge fish, rat traps, strawberries, coconuts, money, hammers, corrugated iron etc. Im cluey at digital art making, some sculpture, compose & perform music and write words.
When curating shows, I tend to believe the ‘happening’ is the most interesting and inspiring form of art event, creative encounters and experiences between friends and strangers, artists and audiences, spontaneity, improvisation, collaboration and real life – get to the facts – pure truth seeking existence based experiences that open eyes and encourage myself and others to share from the heart about whats really going on.
Breaking down the barriers between artists and audience I think is one of my main objectives, we are all unique whether viewing, participating or exhibiting, having a shared experience.
In general, I make two types of distinctly different types hybrid art installations. Aerial installation art and Living hybrid performance art / ‘existence experiments’.
With the help of an outstanding support team, I’ve been installing gigantic fabric cross artworks (Cross of Christ, I’m a disciple the Lord Jesus Christ) up to 100 meters in length in city parks and prominent Australian locations and having them photographed them from chartered helicopter achieving astounding shots of the cross work from over the city.
In 2010 for Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday we did a huge cross installation work in the grass in front of Parliament house Canberra (Federation mall) a work called ‘God Bless Australia” with a permit for a three days.
These aerial works are a hybrid merging Christian spirituality, installation, aviation, fabric art, aerial photography, evangelism and multi media.
The Living hybrid performance art / ‘existence experiments’ installations are spontaneous performances, generally of projected imagery, live art making + painting, fabric, wind, sound, song, movement and as my own Spiritually expressive language that has developed over time. I enjoy incorporating anointed Christian soaking worship music (mostly instrumental) into these performances, which brings the Holy Spiritual atmosphere of the peace of the God into the room instantaneously.
The vast majority of my artwork is a form of Godly spiritual expression. I was on the quest for many years using the work of art as a soul searching – truth seeking tool.
I learned lots on the quest and eventually made it to my destination when I came to know Jesus Christ as my Lord, Saviour and friend.
I had a powerful light filled conversion experience (really) that changed everything, including my art practice.
My art is all about giving glory to God instead of to myself and an expression of my new freedom instead of my old chains.
I am an apprentice of the master artist Himself, the painter of the sky, the Lord God Almighty.
I have a vision for art and multi-media evangelism and a heart for my audience to be touched by God through my art.
I live to encounter God in His glory, all the best times in my life have been worshiping in the splendor of His majesty, knocked out by the Glory on the floor of heaven’s throne-room at the feet of Jesus.
If this is experience is unfamiliar to you, This really happens in charismatic Christian churches..
My major area of spiritual knowledge and gifting is in the area of discernment over creativity.
I’m currently working on a text pertaining to the spiritual nature of the work art, imagery, of music, information technology and creativity in general.
