DRUM, DANCE & CELEBRATION
The DOONCHICKS are 'the red hot mamas of percussion. Formed in 2005 by Doctor A and Mama Doon DOONCHICKS also comprises more advanced students.
DOONCHICKS regularly performs at festivals, weddings, theme parties and other special events.
Our aim is to celebrate life through drumming and dance, and to share this with others.
Our performance features the Djembe and Dunduns, hence our name, DOONCHICKS. Although the music is derived from West African rhythms, the music has our own particular interpretation and arrangements.
The group is directed by Dr Annette Maie who has over ten years’ experience in African-style drum and dance. Trained in Physical Education, with a major in dance, she holds an MA in Dance from UCLA, and a Phd in Social Ecology from UWS on performance-ritual.
