Carole Hampshire's latest solo exhibition begins on 16th June in Katoomba. 'Of Dance and Dreams' is a magical photographic journey into the world of dance. Carole has a special interest in belly dancing and tribal fusion as well as flamenco. These passionate dances translate into some passionate images. Over 40 works will be on show until 27th June at Event Horizon Gallery, 186 Bathurst St, Katoomba. The opening is Sunday 20th June between 2 and 4pm and features the tribal fusion dancer Sally Charlton as well as young singer/songwriter Nat James.
Photographer and author. Blue Mountains-based with an interest in street photography with exhibitions such as ‘Faces of Redfern’ and ‘Gay Mardi Gras’ (both shown in the Workshop at Australian Centre for Photography) and later ‘Tradeswomen: why so few?’ at Pier 3 / 4 The Wharf.
Carole has been involved with many photographic exhibitions in Sydney, the Blue Mountains and England. A frequent contributor of articles on photography and the arts to various publications such as Eyeline, Photofile, Editions Review, Sydney Morning Herald and more recently The Blue Mountains Gazette.
Carole wrote and took photos for the highly successful book ‘Artists Observed: Blue Mountains Artists Close Up’ published by UNSW Press, a project that took over three years to complete. There are only a very limited number of books currently available. However, it is in nearly 30 libraries including the Blue Mountains, Hawksbury and the State library.
Since the late 1990’s besides her documentary and portrait photography Carole has been developing another body of work with a more ethereal or spiritual dimension.
